BBC swap questions..(minor details)..

87 IROC Z 383 Superram (external balance) to a 454 Chev

1)Would the stock throttle/kickdown cable work?bracket that I need?..Carb would be most likely be a Qjet (for now )..

2)Lock up and speedometer issues..Can(or should)I still keep the ECM for the lockup functions..I have a TH400 in a 4x4 Suburban but I still have to research if theyre compatible or not..

3)Would the alternator, power steering pump,A/C and its brackets bolt up?What distibutor would fit(I have one from a non computerized SBC Suburban)?

4)Wiper motor?anything else?

5)I currently have the 400 flexplate,is it better to get the one piece seal adapter or just get a new flywheel?

I could also use pics of how close the HEI is to the firewall, how much and what to trim??Pics of the exhaust and crossmember mods??

1: Your throttle cable may be too long. I removed the original TPI cable from my car and found a shorter one from a carbed car to use. Go pull a bracket off a Q-jet. An aftermarket bracket may work. The 700R4 TV cable will only work on a 700R4. A TH350 detent cable isn't the same and TH400 has an electric kickdown.

2: A 4x4 tranny won't work. It's designed to fit onto a transfer case. You need a tranny from a 2 wheel drive vehicle.

3: All the accessory brackets need to be changed. SBC and BBC use different brackets. The distributor will fit since V8 Chev distributors are all the same size but the oil pump drive (shaft attached to the oil pump) is longer in a BBC.

4: Can't answer any of that. I think you need to use factory style short valve covers to clear the wiper motor.

Can I use the same pulleys? And I assume the A/C,alternator and power steering pump?..I would like to to look like a stock 87 motor but carbed..

The accessories may or may not be interchangable depending on the BBC mounting brackets. The pulleys themselves "should" work. The BBC crankshaft pulley is usually different but a SBC one will work. A long neck water pump will be needed.

Finding brackets from a mid to late 80's BBC will allow you to use your parts easier. GM changed accessories from time to time so the dimensions of the parts may be different over the years.
