Not 3rd Gen swap but 4th Gen.??
Not 3rd Gen swap but 4th Gen.??
Anybody ever put a 350C.I. motor in a 93-95 Camaro? And if so what is involved in the swap as far as *cough* custom additions, and difficulty. etc.
Would prefer no computer controls at all other than to run the dash cluster.

the lt1 shares basically the same shortblock as the older sbc. Im sure the boltup wouldnt be taht much different then doing a carb swap to a newer thridgen camaro. The dissy will be a bit of a pain, though. Youll have to use a low profile dissy b/c the firewall + engine is recessed to allow for a shorter front end. Also, youll need to get a non CC auto trans unless its a 93 (manual will bolt up fine). Id just get another lt1 for it and keep the computer if it was my car.
Sorry for my lack of net lingo, LoL
Dissy' = Distributer?
Non CC Automatic Transmission? = Huh?
And it doesnt have a LT-1 now, just a crappy old 6 banger. Im trieng to make a new model car with proven power/reliabilty.
So at least new motor mounts, (from v6 to v8) What about the transmission mounts? will a turbo 350 or 400 mount up?
Thanks for the answers so far. :hail:

Im not sure about the 3.8 and what kind of bolt pattern it uses. Needless to say, get yourself an old style low profile hei distributer and another tranny (ahem... t56) for your new motor that your swapping in. As for a th350/400 youll need to fabricate your own crossmember. Youll definatly want another driveshaft considering that the v6 is is a heavy two piece unit and the incorrect legnth for one of the older trans'. Other then that and any small crap you may run into you should be fine. Id still take this over to a fourth gen board and make sure. Id hate to tell you something wrong only to have you find it out halfway through the swap. As for that v6, can we say blower? Be easier then a swap although still expensive. That 3.8 is a derivative of the 3.8 used in the older GN's.

youll definatly want to get a 98 and earlier 4-th gen. One thing im not sure of is the cross member. I cant see them using a different cross member for the 3.8 but i suppose its worth it. Dont get one of the 98+'s they changed the models that year with the introduction of the ls-1 and i dont know how many changes they made to the bodies. To tell you the truth, ive been mulling over this also. The idea of getting a nice 4th gen for around 2k seems quite appealing, especially considering that im extremly poor and having a nice car w/ a v8 would kick some serious ***. Id especially like not having to always have my feet resting in a smelly puddle of water because the car leaks so bad. Thats one thing i really hate about this t-top car. The leaks started after i got a good motor in the car and they have gotten pogressivly worse with all the flexing. I dont even have an interior because of this, not to mention the rest of the car looks like crap. Ive seen a couple of nice v6's for less then 2000 with their only porblem being a tired 3.8. Im tempted to go out and get a 3.8 rental just so i can poke at it and see how everything sizes up. One thing that is a given with this is that it probably will be a difficult swap, especially considering the recessed firewall. That is going to make access to the dist. difficult, but not impossible. ive seen a few bbc swaps with a dist. and they seem to get around the issue ok. If anything goes wrong with the distributer or you have to pull the intake, youll probably have to pull the motor to get access. So far, i havnt found anyone on some 4th gen boards who has even thought about this or knows much about it. I guess we're the first, or the only ones who havnt found out that one piece of critical information about the six's that makes the swap impossible.

evidently the dist. cant be even accessed once the engine is in the car. Big issue but if you time the engine throught eh prom you can get around it, but.. if your running a vacuum advance dist., forget it. once the engine is in, your timing is set in stone. Cant get to it. Oh, just realized this, your clearence if you have a carb will be quite small considering the firewall will be right behind the carb so those are some more things to consider. I probably wont do it but its still a neat idea.
