305 swap in
305 swap in
I have a 84 Camaro it came with 2.8 V6 It now has a 3.8 V6 in it. It still has the 5 speed transmission that came in it, Now for my question I can get a 305 from a 90 camaro for free, what do I need to change to put it in? Will I need a new transmission if so which one should I get, also will I need a new rear end and if so which one? This will be my 1st engine swap is there anything else I should know before I do this? Also my budget is very tight how much do you think everything will cost? Thanks for any help.

This isn't an easy job. Most everything that attaches to or feeds the engine, including the transmission, needs to be changed. The best way to do this is with a complete factory V8 donor car. Getting the engine for free is nothing - that's not the hard or expensive part.
Unless this car has some particular sentimental value, don't do it. That fact that someone put a 3.8 V6 in it is proof that too much effort has already been put into it.
Of course, putting a turbo 3.8 into it now, since it already has a Buick V6 in it - that's a different story...
