Wich should be better?
Wich should be better?
Wich could be a better street engine this ram jet 430 http://www.goautocenter.com/350%20ram%20jet.htm
or this 500hp 383 http://www.goautocenter.com/383_small_blk.htm with one of the following Fuel injection From holley the TBI one:
Commander 950TM 4-bbl
Throttle Body Fuel Injection - 900 CFM
SB and BB V-8 engines
Engines rated 375 - 500 horsepower
or a Commander 950TM
Multi-Point Fuel Injection Systems
CHEVROLET SMALL BLOCK V-8, Vortec Cylinder Heads
450-550 1000 4-bbl square flange 30 lbs./hr. 91104101 (in line fuel pump) 91104301 (In tank fuel pump)
Has anyone attained those numbers? the Commander (both of them can be programed for various levels of power and the final price of both systems is not to different as the 383 cost $5.750+ the $1.950 the Fuel inyection cost for aprox 500hp.
And the ramm jet cost $6.995 for 430hp but to my understanding is not really easy to tune or modify.
Both engines require a high investmen in everything else like chassis, cooling, fuel sistem, suspenssion, transmission, and rear end.
So the Ram Jet 430 could be a better solution for a leave it alone street engine? Or the upgradability of the 383 with the Holley sistem really make it a better choice all around?
Thanks

Depends. If you feel confident installing and tuning the 383 and the Holly system than I would go that route, HOWEVER if you don't feel confident doing a lot of tuning than I would recomend the ready to go Ram Jet.

Also if i never put slicks do you think a T56 could handle that engine even with very wide very good radials?
You can tune any motor, with any cam, with the right equipmend and knowledge. (I wouldn't do it myself but then again I'm not really mechanically inclined either.) Both of those motors would seem to be streetable, definately the Ram Jet, that's why it's fuel injected, for easy start up and driveability. Neither really have the HP to be a SERIOUS race only motor but both would be good on the track, with the 383 you could probably hit 11's, with the ram jet, easily into the 12's... (not to shabby either way)
As for the T56 question, I really don't have a clue. From what I've heard the T56 should be able to handle either motor, probably better suited for the Ram Jet though. (the torque range seems more inline with the T56's capabilities) However, that would be a question better suited for the "experts" in the transmission and driveline section of the boards. I hope I've helped!

Thanks jharms I will ask them there.
My worries is not really if The 383 will be tunnable, or if I could do it, its more like how much time it would take me to learn everything so I could do it, so if I could make it run not optimized and then optimize it with time would be more interesting than just put a "ready" engine on my car.
Also I think I have heard on this forum that the Ram Jet is pretty diffcult to modify (For example adding a turbo or supercharger) couse the programing is very close and propietary, not like the Holey system wich one can acces easyly with a laptop and cable-software included (Inclusively I think that one can download base maps for its ECU, and have a runing motor to tune)
Also On the site there is not a specification on what other runing gear they where using to get those numbers, Like what intake and carb on the 383, shurely was with competition headers open headers, so It will not really make those numbers installed on a car with full a exhaust system.
Thanks again.
