First time I've heard anything about shelf life. Would you care to provide the exact source of this information?
They want dealers to keep their stock rotated so you always have the latest formulation, but the stuff this guy is selling isn't a problem from that perspective (for a 3rd gen).

Amsoil Shelf Life
I have a friend who is an Amsoil dealer, I was going to buy a 30 gallon drum from him to cut down on the price and the amount of garbage created from buying individual conatiners.
I asked him to find out if shelf life was an issue with synthetic as I figured 30 gallons would last me about three years. He emailed Amsoil and they stated the oil had approximately a two year shelf life.
Drop Amsoil an email if your curious. Its possible this only applies when buying in bulk.
