Questions about engine blocks

I was just wondering what a "dry block" is and how it works? I am currently looking at the aluminum engine block on this web sight. www.cnblocks.com, hope to save at least 150 pounds...If anybody knows the advantages/disadvantages of an aluminum block please let me know. Thanx everyone.

IIRC a "dry block" is one without cooling passages, work great if you only go 1320' at a time, bad if you go further.

aluminum is lighter than iron and easier to weld. you wouldn't want one for anything but a race only application. liek was already said wet usues coolant and dry doesn't.
