Broken Crankshaft??

I was moving the 455 to test fit it yesterday, and almost got it outside and the motor fell due to a bolt not being tight enough. It flattened the oil pan, so now its not rounded. ( The oil pan didn't hit the crank ) The pulley for the crank got dented up, what's the chance the crank is broken? Is there a way to tell?

Cranks are pretty strong for the most part. You probably just bent the pulley like you said. Try turning it over with a ratchet on the crank bolt and see how it moves. IF it seems to move somewhat freely,(other then compression) then I would say your probably alright.

i'd say slim to none for the odd on breaking the crank in the engine duw to the fall. it's pretty well supported and it didn't take a direct hit. couple of my friends tipped over an engine stand with a 360 on it i had just finished. no problem to it and it was still running 15 years later.

'Friends' huh?

To me they'd be 'old friends'.

The only part of the crank that would be of concern is the nose. A visual inspection will suffice.

I would take the pulley off and check for crank runout with a dial indicator, that's the only way to tell for sure if it bent or not.
