does low mount alternator fit on 3rd gen

I searched for a while looking to see if someone else had asked the same question but didn't see anything.

My question is if a low mount alternator setup will clear the frame on the drivers side. Most of these setups say in small print that they may not clear on newer cars.

It is for a short water pump smallblock. It sure does clean up the look of the engine with it mounted low. I figured some of you all had tried it already, so how did it go or not go.

Thanks and happy new year.

It's not the frame that's the problem but the steering box. There's not a lot of room between the block and the steering box for an alternator. Although I've never seen it, I doubt it will work on a third gen.

Older cars either had the steering box mounted back farther (early nova) with the steering linkage behind the crossmember or they have the steering box mounted on the outside of the frame.

You will really have to look out for the pitman arm. THe brackets tend to rub. Here is a pic on my Monte SS to give you a idea...I had to get some work done to my pitman arm to fit it all together.

I found that its is the pitman arm you really have to llok out for...the bracket tends to rub on the pitman. I had to get some modifications done to my pitman arm to allow it to work on the TPI in my Monte SS.

Here is a pic , not sure if it will help you, but will give you the idea. Don't mind the coolant everywhere. I put a hole in my rad.
