LT1 fuel pump and wiring question

I got my tank out of my '87 Trans Am which was originally carb'ed. I am swapping in an Lt1 and have a new GM fuel pump kit. My question is..is there supposed to be a wire back there already to wire the pump or do I have to run my own? If I have to do my own...do I run it into to the interior(to an ignition source) or into the engine compartment? I haven't gotten the float assembly out of the tank because I ran out of time and I'm going to have the tank redone locally so i'm not sure what exactly is down there yet. There are 3 wires running to the top of it though, but I assumed those are for the gauge. I did a search and all I came up with was another lt1 swappers car didn't start the first time because he didn't hook up a fuel pump relay. The motor isn't in yet so I haven't really gotten to a fuel pump relay yet. After I get the tank and rear end back in I'm going to start dropping in the motor. Thanks...any help is greatly appreciated.

Well in my 85 Z28 carbed LG4 there was 3 wires running to the fuel pump assembly. One was for fuel pump power, one for the guage and i'm assuming the other one was a ground.

After I figured out which wire was supposed to supply power to the fuel pump (which can be seen when you remove the fuel pump hanger/assembly) I traced it to under my dash. For me this wire wasn't hooked up to anything, it was just a dummy wire. I ended up hooking it up to the fuel pump power wire coming off the LT1 harness.
