SDPC vortec TPI engine
SDPC vortec TPI engine
Need a new engine for my car, and I dont think I am competent to install it myself.
My car is a '91 Z28, L98 with 170k miles on it. It has the stock 700r4 and the amazing limited slip 3.23 rear.
I was looking at getting the Vortec TPI engine that sdpc makes.

that engine has 360 hp and 416 ft/lbs tq I believe.
and the price is a whoping $3,399.
Looking at getting a mechanic to install it, if I can find one too.
Any words on what I will run into if I try to do this?

If you have $6 K and change it might be enough. Labor and all the extras you may want, headers, exhaust, torque converter and all those little things that add up.

Yes, take his advice and look at the fine print on that motor. Look at what size headers and also the runners they used to get those numbers. Thats is what you will need to get those numbers. Definately should have the tranny worked on and a new converter, expect $1500 for that will decent parts. Stuff adds up quick man. Don't forget about some suspension work to get the thing to bite. good luck
I bought a 335 horse motor from scoggin dickey for about that price, man do I feel stupid. It's the tpi with vortec heads. I installed it myself and man did it suck. Looking back at it now, it was a pretty easy swap, but since I was a newbie, it took forever to do. The hardest part is getting that thing tuned right. Mine still misses under hard acceleration. I think I may need a better ignition system like msd. I plan to do that soon. I was disappointed with the results so far. It's not that much faster than my old L98, except in the high end. It feels way faster up there
I also had 700r built, thats awsome.
