planning project for next weekend

hi all, i have 700 in the bank and i want to put it on some performance stuff. But i really want this 400ci motor sitting in a junk yard near by for 450$. but somone said i wont have enough money left if i run into trouble well the engine comes with everything form carb to pan. It is stock form what i know. if i put it in my car and bolt it up to my LG4 exhaust manafolds will it hurt anything till i can put headers on there? Thats the best performance upgrade i can think of for less than a Super Charger or a New Performance Motor. good deal? specs on motor what i have been told. 400 +.030, stock heads 882's, stock rebuilt bottem end, near stock cam. it has HEI distributor and a Carter AFB on top have no idea what CFM it is. is this a good deal for 450$. i have 250 left over after buying the motor but buy next weekend i should have close to 500 cause i get paid again. Good plan or should i go a different rout? so this a good week project i have never done this before so please be honest can somon never done ny serious work to a motor do this?

it probably won't hurt to put the lg4 manifolds on there for the time being, mainly because the 882 heads on there are crap, they limit the motor to about 180 hp., the motor should drop in providing you have the right flywheel for it. it would be a good starting point for future mods though, a decent cam, good set of heads and a full exhaust system would give about 400 hp. if chosen correctly.
