305 to 350 swap suggestions

I'm re-enlisting and getting a bonus in a couple of weeks so I decided to go ahead and change out my LG4 with a 350. Here's the questions I have:

This will still be a daily driver so what intake, cam, etc., should I use? I'm looking for ***** but not an 11 second car. It needs to remain smog legal as well.

What should I do for an exhaust? I know headers but what brand, etc should I get. I'm guessing a 3" cat back system??

I'm also assuming I can keep my CC carb as well.

The block will be a junkyard block that I will be building in the auto hobby shop on base. I lucked out because there's plenty of space there now since pretty much the whole base is now in Kuwait!

The more input the better!

DO NOT forget to put in the knock sensor and the fan switch before you put the new engine in. Its is a major PITA to put either of these in when the engine is in the car, because there is just no room. Its very easy when the engine is out though.

Also, make sure the starter has the correct bolt pattern to fit onto the 350. The pattern was different on my 305 than the 350 thats in my car now.

As for headers, I don't suggest long tubes, stick with shorties from either Hooker of Hedman.

Do what I did to my 305, except use 350 heads.

You'll love it.

Flat-top pistons, 64cc heads, composite head gaskets will give you around 9.5:1. I don't have any problems running regular unleaded gas (polished chambers a big plus there).

The cam is the Crane computer-compatible with .454/.480, 216/230 @ .050, flat tappet. I used roller-tip 1.5:1 Elgin rockers, they're doing just fine.

You've got to do the torque converter with that cam, though. The stock converter will bog the engine down (I should probably have a little more stall, but behind a 350, it would be fine).

Sounds pretty doable, with the exception of the swap to TPI. Where do I find the cast # on the heads? What sort of compression ratio are we talking here with the domed pistons?

I'll look into five7kid's suggestion for simplicities sake as well. Thanks for the heads up on the starter. I was thinking they were the same.

I did the 305 to 350 TBI swap last year...mods are in my sig. The heads are stock..compression is 9.5 to 1...everything dropped right in and lined up perfectly....no problems, no glitches...runs smooth and strong, with about 300HP. It'll be even easier with a carb.
