383 vortec question
I've got a vortec engine out of a z71. I'm planning on rebuilding it to a 383. It has everything on it the fuel injection too. What do I need to do to make the fuel injection support the 383. Around how much would it cost, or would there be a more practical way?
What kind of fuel induction system do you have currently. It would probably be easiest to use that. I believe that z71 motor comes with TBI. You will need a new ECM or PROM burned to match, if you decide to keep the TBI. You will also need larger injectors, 454 injectors are supposed to work well. What you will have to do to make it work will depend largely on what induction system you have now. DO A SEARCH, that is the best way to find out information like this.

Then it would be fairly easy to retain your TBI, or swap to a carb. You can get similar mileage, with more power potential out of a carb. If you wish to keep your TBI, you will need a new chip/ecm, new injector(s). I would reccomend a carb, but thats up to you. You should try a search for your questions tho. You should also consider reading/posting at both the carb and TBI boards. Good luck, congrats on finding a good free engine.
