V6 to V8 swap
Hey guy's, I have a 92 3.1L V6 camaro RS and I might be able to pick up a wrecked 88 IROC pretty cheap, we're talking probably around $700 for the whole car. I was thinking of swapping the 350 TPI V8 into my car. Do you think this would be worth it and how much of a pain in the *** do you think this project will be? By the way my dad will be helping me with this swap and he has put engines in and taken them out on dfferent cars/boats numerous times.

if you are getting a parts car like that, it will be very easy and well worth the time.
Honestly, if you and your dad have machanical skills, this swap might be able to get done in one long weekend. You have to change tranny, engine, radiator, motor mounts, wireing, computer, front springs...maybe i forgot something

You might try getting the price down a little on the parts car.
Basically, anything that attaches to or feeds/supports the engine needs to be changed. The front springs & mounts all need to change - just take the entire front cross member out and change it over. Easier than pulling springs or getting to those pesky motor mount nuts.
V6 & V8 tachs are different.
Transmissions are different, but shifter/crossmember/driveshaft/torque arm are the same.
If your dad hasn't worked on 3rd gens before, he's in for a treat.

Thanks for the help guy's. My dad has had several IROC's at the shop he used to own, so he has worked on them. With the tach and everything, my speedometer doesn't work rght now and I need to replace that whole unit (speedometer, tach, all the guages) so I might as well buy a 92 Z28 setup with the 145 speedo, then it should work.
