383 Stroker vs 383 Destroker
What are the main differences between the motors besides the obvious difference in blocks and cranks...
Do they make the same power?
Do they make the same Torque?
With the same mods, would they have the same power band?
I dont want to hear anything about why someone would destroke a 400. I dont care about that, Im just looking for actual info. Comare and contrast for me fellas...
Thanks

FWIW, (and I bet I could find it if I really wanted to) I've read a comparison of the two engines in CHP magazine.
For all the added work and cost to change a 400 to a 377 (not 383) was not nearly worth it, UNLESS you were looking for strictly a road race engine that would spend 90% of it's time above 5000 RPMs.
They put the same cam, heads, exhaust, etc. in both engines and IIRC, the 383 had about 10 more ft.lbs of torque below 4500 RPMs and the 377 had like 10 more HP over 4500 RPMs.
The difference was marginal at best. I'll dig through my old magazines one day and try to find it for ya, OK?

For a street motor, go with the big arm (stroker)... you will get more torque. You don't need power above 5000 rpms on the street because how often are you over 5000 rpm?
