Cross-fire 305 heads??
Cross-fire 305 heads??
I'm swapping my cross-fire 305 to a carb'd 350. I'll be using an edelbrock performer RPM intake. I had planned on using the heads off of my 305 to help boost compression a little bit. Of course I'll be using larger valves....but I digress. My point is, I wanted to use these heads becuase I could go ahead and pull them and have them rebuilt and waiting for the rest of the 350 to progress. While looking through the haynes manual last night, it showed some kind of funky bolt pattern for the cross-fire intake, but I'm thinking maybe it was for the top cover and not where the base bolts to the heads. Are these heads different or will a regular intake bolt up???
By the way.......why don't I just pull the 350 heads and have them rebuilt you ask? Good question. The 350 is still in a monte carlo sitting at a body shop. The 305 is in the camaro in my back yard. Besides, from some of the things I've read here I can make a little better compression with the smaller chambers on the 305 heads.

They're the same as LG4 or L69 heads from the same years, specifically 416 casting. Everything will bolt up.
As far as which heads to use, get the casting numbers off the 350 heads, then you'll have some info to go on.

Lots of Monte Carlos came with 350s. My wife's 74 had a 400 even.
You know, history didn't just kind of start in 1985 or something.... lots of stuff went on before then.

'78-up Montes never came with 350's. Before that the sky was the limit. There were even 454 SS Monte Carlos in the early 70's. But to answer your query, the 350 is in a '74 Monte......
