Thinking about swapping 305 for a 350
Theres a Chevy van for sale for 400 dollers with a 350. My carb is pooched and to fix/replace that it would cost almost that. Should I just buy the van and drop the 350 that comes with it into my Trans Am?
Ive never done an engine swap before and dont know much about the 350. Do I have to upgrade anything else under the hood to accomadate a bigger engine?
And how much more power do you guys think this 350 will have? At least 200 HP? I may take a look at the engine next weekend.
THX for any help, its much appreciated.

What year is the van? What carb does it have?
Vans are considered trucks by the factory. They get truck engines, which means they aren't much, performance-wise.
In order to get 200 HP out of that engine, you'd have to replace the heads & cam, and for sure upgrade the exhaust (assuming you currently have an LG4). And, this assumes the van has a q-jet, which may or may not be true.
If the van is non-computer controlled, you'll lose some functions like torque converter lock up. Since there is no such thing as a "bolt-in", expect to spend a good bit over $400 to get this done.

its not that hard to do. just take out the engine, and take it to a mechanic to get checked. then throw on your performance parts and your CRUISIN. thats what i did, minus the van, i bought a new block and just threw aftermarket parts all over it and ****.. WOW
