Old 350 carbed motor going in...

Friend of mine asked a couple of questions that I'm not sure how to answer...

He's curious abuot setting up the fuel tank to work with his mecahnical fuel pump on the motor instead of the electric in tank model....*I suggested a holley blue with a reg...but he wants to use his mechanical...don't ask me why*

The others I've answered myself and with the use of my friends...not sure what to tell him on this one though...

Any thoughts?

Welcome aboard.

Although a mechanical "can" pull through a factory in-tank electric, it's not a good idea to ask it to. So, remove it.

Step 1) Drop the fuel tank (other posts, particularly in the Tech forum, have discussed that - try a search on "replacing fuel pump").

Step 2) Pull out the pickup/fuel gage sending unit.

Step 3) Remove the electric fuel pump.

Step 4) Put a piece of fuel hose where the pump used to be. This is also a good time to replace the strainer.

Step 5) Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly.

Tell your friend not to fight a good thing. Take the mechanical fuel pump off and gain some horse (OK only about 1/2 hp but anything you can get is nice ) Then just get a regulator and install that. Plus the engine bay will have one less thing in it.

Just my $.02, Later, Garrett
