I have an 87 transam with a 305 (blown head gasket bad bearings etc)
I want to put a 350 in it what engine would you recamend gm performance crate engine or rebuilt?
also my car has tpi injection I have been told the most hp I could get is 300hp any higher and it won't pass the polution test? I live in ill btw.
I would like to get 350hp out of the 350 while passing the emissions test is this possible? if so could you list what I would need to buy.
so I have one goal get an engine with 350hp while passing emissions if this is not possible what is the highest I could go?

Just get a crate engine, emissions is not problem as long as you don't live in CA. Just get a good high-flo cat and you'll pass w/o problems with 450HP not to mention 350.
In case you care, a TPI motor putting out 275HP is putting out a significantly higher amount of torque then a 350HP crate motor, therefore your trap speeds will differ, but your 1/4 ET would be very close.
If you want to buy a 350 shortblock for like 1000$ and build the rest of the engine yourself with your TPI setup it's possible with a little work to get it just fine, plus you'll look stock under the hood, get to keep fuel injection, and hopefully come out even in cost.
