305fuel injected to 350 carb Just need some info
I know you hear this all the time and want people to sreach and find it out themselfs. Im just gona be strait honest with ya im 15 years old and liking caramo's now more then Imports. I was told i can do a 350 engine swap that is carbed. I have no friends that know anything about domestics and my dad not to pleased that i wana turn any car into a performence car, things im worried about when i do it is.. (Monitoring the engine,Controling the engine,Hooking th engine back up)
I was told that i can maybe not even use the ECU and could almost through it out. I wana be able to take a 350 small block and able to put it in. Thing is anything different that i need to do electical wise? Like adapters or senors or something?
also if i get this 350 can i just plug is the stock st00045 trans? (correct if im rong on the trans #) untill i can upgrade the cluth, flywhell and rebuild it at a later date?
My plain is to get the engine in and then save more for fuel pump and stuff. But im more worried about at the momment the electic part of it all.. senors and stuff. I know that the ecu will even restic air/fuel flow but anything u guys/gals can give me would be a great help.
Thank

Well, first off I don't know how much experience you have had with working on engines and cars in general, but pulling a engine out and replacing it with a better one sounds easy enough, but its not for the faint at heart. Engine building is not as easy as it sounds and it is quite expensive. But to touch on your question, the electrical stuff you will have to deal with isn't really that hard. If you go to a carb, all you will really need is the wires to the altenator, air cond, and a few other things. Most wiring will not be used with the carb. Your computer is pretty much useless after the swap. You will just need to seperate all the wires that supply the things you are going to use and reconnect them. I take it that you probably have a TBI, in which I really had no problems with the wiring when doing my conversion. But my advice is, before you go ripping out your engine (I don't know if you have anyone with experience to help you), I would first learn some basics by messing with the 305. You can make the 305 run decent and sound just as good as a 350. Just don't get yourself too deep into things, and have more time with problems than you have time enjoying the car. If you would like more info on a swap I could try to lay it out more clearly if you would like. Just let me know. Good Luck
