383 Build up
383 Build up
Question for you guys, I have a 1982 Camaro with a 350 Chevy I am going to build a new 383 engine I want to achieve about 500hp and 550tq of true power to run on 93 octane with no nos or supercharger. What is involved to achieve that. I would like the power range from 2000 to 6500+ with about a 7000rpm max. The car is going to be my toy car drivin only on weekends, during the week when the weather is nice and at the dragstrip. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will be putting subframe connectors on and installing a hotchiks rear suspension package, Front Sway bar, and will be replacing all rubber bushings with polyurethane, strut tower brace, etc.
Thanks,
Justin

I'm looking to do the same thing on my car. I just want to know what I need to get the most out of it. I also wonder if making around 400HP or so requires any changes to the driveline.
I am going to install SFC's. Change my gears. But I wonder if the stock 700r4 would be ok to start with.
I wonder if it would be ok to port my existing TPI stuff and get long tube runners.

I could go into great detail here but I wont take up too much space. Depending on your budget building a 500hp 383 is easy. I highly recommend shopping for your parts on ebay. I got my eagle crank for 200.80 including shipping from CNC MOTORSPORTS off of ebay and jegs wanted 289.99 without shipping. It arrived within 3 days via UPS. Ive gotten most of my hard parts for my engine the same way. At the same time I sold off all of my old engine parts on ebay to offset the cost. It worked out great and saved me lots of cash. Next, to make 500 hp you should use a minimum of a 200cc intake runner head. I recommend the pro topline heads. They have great mid lift flow numbers which is good for the street. As for the camshaft I recommend a minimum of a 230 degree @.050" lift dur. hyd roller or 240 degree@ 050 " lift dur flat tappet hyd., compcams make the best for this, that should get ya there or damn close.
2.) No the stock 700r4 wont handle it...you would destroy it in short order.
