Headers with ls1 swap

I do not want to run shorty headers. I dont see them being that much better than the stock manifolds. I would like to run the mac midlength headers. Does anyone know waht the clearnce problems are with these headers? Would running an aftermaket k member help fitment, grinding, dinging headers? anyone make these to fit.

One day when I get the $$$ for a LS1 swap I want to use long tube. I don't think anyone here will be able to tell you if they will clear. Not may people here have done the swap.

I know LS1 headers will not work on stock 3rd gen, so everyone runs the manifolds.

Here is a step by step LS1 install into a 3rd gen RS,

Yes the shroties work no problem, but they are identical to the manifolds. And are only 1 5/8. I guess I will have to just get the motor in, and see what the fitmint problems will be with the aftermarket k member. Hopefully the midlengths will fit with some minor modifacations. If not I will just run the manifolds untill i sell a kidney to afford custom headers.

thirdgenresource.com has a set of headers that will fit with the swap.

You are better off spending your money on something else. The 01-02 stock exhaust manifolds flow as good if not better than most shorties.

You might be able to have some custom headers made up, however there are serious clearence issues. I am having a hard enough time trying to deal with dual cats and 3" pipes on the left side.

I had heard that the 01 and up maniflolds flow better, but when you compare the inside diameter of the earlielr manifolds they apear to be bigger. The 01 and up seem to have a more seemless design on the inside. The earlier manifolds have some pretty big seems that stick out from where they were pushed together. I was thinking about grinding off this inside seem.

I was thinking about the possibility of even porting my 01 manifolds. Not sure if anyone even offers that service. They would probably think I was nuts for even trying.

You can probably find a set of 01-02 mainfolds easily.

A friend of mine is putting headers on his 01 ws6, and he said I could have his manifolds.
Couldnt you just get the manifolds extrune honed like an intake?

Not sure. Who offers the intake service? We can inquire with them.

possible solution. bbk now has shorty headrs out. They are $399 for the nickle plated, and $499 for the ceramic coated, and they are 1 3/4.

Any links? I will probably stay with my stock 01s for now. I am going to make up the diff out back with random high flow cats and 3" pipes all they way or from the cats back.

MAC or FLP long-tubes will work, but they require you use a tubular k-member and do a little engine bay frame rail massaging. I personally wouldn't waste the money on shorty's. If my new motor dies, I'm going to do a 405 LS-6 swap with a bigger cam, headers and computer tuning (no other mods).

New motor:
