LS1 ?'s (A/C, emissions...)
LS1 ?'s (A/C, emissions...)
I've used the search and the "sticky," but haven't found the answers to some LS1 swap questions. Hopefully you guys can help me and some others out with this:
1. Is there an A/C delete pulley for the LS1? Anyone have a PN?
My car is no longer a daily driver, don't need AC if I do the swap.
2. Regarding CA emissions:
LS1's have cats that start right after the exhaust manifolds. If I have a 1-Cat 3rd gen, can I delete these cats from the LS1 and get a muffler shop to custom fabricate a Y-pipe to put 1-Cat in the stock 3rd gen location to comply with CA emissions?
Also, I can't find anyone that has done this swap and kept all the emissions. I know that as long as the engine is newer than the car, the swap can pass emissions in CA as long as all emissions are kept. Anyone know of any possible issues that might develop during the swap if trying to keep all emissions equipment (wiring, interference, etc...)?
3. Someone recently told me that CA emissions doesn't like people switching cars from Auto to Manual or Manual to Auto. Any truth to this? I would like to get a 6-spd in place of my Auto, but not sure how credible this info is.
Thanks in advance for all info...

There are people who have done the swap without A/C. I do not recall if they use a pulley or not. Regardless, it's not that big of an issue because there is simple soultion.
The LS1 burns cleaner than some 4cyls. It is light yeard ahead of the SBC in every aspect of its design. Passing CA emissions will not be a problem.
My setup will be utilizing dual cats. The right side cat will be in the stock position. The left side presents a problem, however a good exhaust shop can resolve it with good fabrication skills.
The M6 conversion will be a pain. I opted to stay A4 and used the 4L60E. As far as the state goes, the is no reason to tell them what mods you have made to the car. As long as it passes the sniffer they should not bother you.

Given the LS1 drives the AC with it's own, separate belt, why bother? Just take off the compressor and belt, the rest of the accessories are driven off their own belt.
I did not know that, thanks for the info!
wm_sorg,
I'm not worried about the sniffer test, just the inspection that I would have to go through at the Referee station here in CA. I don't want to "work around the law" or try to hide something I've done, I'd rather just make it all legal. I don't really care if I can't get a M6, I'll stick with an A4, but mostly I don't want to fail the Referee test because the Cat has moved from it's stock location. That would be a real PITA.
Here in CA, if you do a motor swap and want to keep it legal, you have to get it inspected at a Referee station. From what I've read and heard from others, they basically check to make sure you have retained all the smog equipment from the motor that you have swapped. They do a full visual test and also make sure that all smog equipment is hooked up and working correctly. If everything checks out, then they run a sniffer. Once everything passes you get a certificate that validates your swap and everything is cool. You can read about the procedure here:
