Anyone have experience with a 377?
I have a friend who has a 377 (400 with a 350 crank and rods) for sale, it was built by a very reputible shop around here and has everything except for a camshaft (was sold before). It would be going on under a stock 305tpi for now, i know i'll need new injectors right away (30lbs?) later on I will swap a HSR or Superram on it. What are these motors like, I heard they rev sky high (short stroke). Any cam recomendations? I want to keep max Horsepower in the 5500-6000 rpm range. Car has a built 700r4 and 4.10 posi right now with a 2600stall non lockup converter. Thanks :hail: :hail:
Well sure, 377s will rev sky high if theyre built to rev sky high. What kinda heads you got on there? Springs, retainers? What kinda cam are you planning on puttin gin there? If you wanna rev to 55-6K you better lookit a new induction system other than a stock 305 tpi. You may want to consider an LT1 intake retrofitted for an HEI distributor. I've seen them on the boards, and that intake will probably give you what you want in terms of power band. Good luck

it was built to rev, i have to find out what heads still and what kind of lift the are setup for, as for the stock tpi setup i allready know that, and said i was going to replace it down the road. I don't want to put a LT1 intake on it, i was thinking HSR or superram. I was also asking for cam suggestions i'm not familiar with 377's so i'm not sure weither they like alot of duration. I know tpi setups like alot of lift.

377 can be a wicked motor if you match parts properly. otherwise you'll be disappointed. if you want to rev sky high, scrap the idea of fuel injection, it will be way to expensive to get it working with a 7000+ rpm motor. if you're looking to build a High revving 377, you'd need an all forged bottom end, no exeptions, solid (preferably roller) cam with a minimum .575" lift and some ported PRO 1 or Track 1 aluminum heads and a single plane intake with a good sized 4 barrel. also you'd need some very free flowing exhaust, hardened pushrods, everything should be able to withstand 9000 rpm for a 7000 rpm motor. Unless you want the supra experience (that is a lot of HP and still relatively HIGH e/ts) you'll need some tall gears on the back, 3.73 minimum and TRACTION. at least a 3000 stall as well, I'd go with a 4000 just to make sure I can get the holeshot. a high rpm motor is fun, and can be incredibly fast provided you've got the car geared for drag racing.
