Possible?
Ok, I heard something about this on this board awhile back, but with no real info on it, or if its even possible.
I know that a 305 block cannot be punched out to a 4" bore, because you will hit water. BUT, what I heard awhile back is that you can punch it out to 4", even going into water, and then you can just put a sleeve in the bore, like an LS1 or a Diesel block has.
Is this true, or just BS?

not sure if you'd actually hit water taking a 305 to 4" but the cylinder walls would be too thin to use. yes you can sleeve just about all if not all blocks. cost would pretty prohibitive to do all 8 holes. something like 40 dollars a sleeve, plus the cost of machine work. sleeves are usually more to repair one damaged hole to save a block. considering how easy it is to find a SBC 350 block i'd look for a new block.

Yes, like ede said, it's possible, as a theroetical matter; just not the practical thing to do, unless you're racing in a class that requires the original block for the vehicle but doesn't P&G it, and it's not a claimer class

I dont think you can, because you'd be cutting off too much cylinder to have anything left to work with. Thats why GM had to use siamesed bores on the 400.
