How to determine engine?

Hey, I just bought a camaro from a junkyard and I'd really like to know what engine is in it. Is there any way to tell? Such as casting numbers or anytthing? I've looked everywhere one the block that I can see, and have found the numbers on the passanger side of the car, at the front of the engine, under the cylinder head/ above the timing cover.

Um, I guess the only other things to mention is that it's definately not the original motor, and it's definately no 305...it's mmuch to fast for that.

So, is there anywhere that the size of the engine is cast onto the block, and can I find it without removing the engine?
