Vortec 350 questions...

I've posted something similar a few months ago, but I need some suggestions. I've already tried searching, and I haven't came up with a lot of what I wanted. I'm looking to replace my LO3 when I get some $$$.
I already have a 350 block from a '75 Monte Carlo. I want a street/strip car that will have good manners on the street. I was thinking of a set of iron Vortec heads, and an edelbrock air-gap intake. I have little to no knowledge of cams, so ANY info would be greatly appreciated. Again, I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'd like to run 13's if possible. Thanks in advance,
---Matt---

I dont know much about cams either but I know you can break 13's w/ the stock one . Run the Vortec heads with a performer air gap intake ,a full msd, edelbrocke headers,an Open element cleaner, and a 3.42 or better gear and you should hit it ( I have a friend running that same setup w/ 3.42's and he runs 13.8's)If you look at cams most places give you a good idea of what range the cam runs in , just get one w/ good low end torque and you should be good to go .Are you gonna keep the TBI? If so you should also get a 670 cfm unit.Good luck.

My setup is:
350HO Crate engine
10.06:1 compression
Comp Extreme Energy 274 cam (230/236 @.050 .487/.490)
Vortec heads, ported and polished
Super Victor Intake
Demon 650 Carb

I run 12.68 @ 108.91 on a 2.0 60 foot. Do not run a stock cam if this isnt a daily driver, the XE274 is a perfect compromise of streetability and power.

It will probably end up not being my daily driver anymore, but I'd like the option for it to be. I've got a Q-Jet off a Buick 455, but I'd like to go with fuel injection. I'm happy with the simplicity of TBI, but I don't want to choke the engine. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

second vote for carb=simplicity

I'v also got a vortec headed 355.
10.7 compression
bowl blended vortecs,
Xe274 cam
performer rpm intake.
780 vac sec holley
700R4

it's been 12.06 @112.5 on 26x9.5x16 mickey thompson sportsman pros' before i stopped racing it a few months ago... needs roll bar and big kid tires. ran that through a single exhaust2.5" bend and a cutout.

as far as streetable... it's no daily driver but for a play car it's great. idles steady and smooth in gear around 800.
pulls about 15" of vacuum. power brakes work and whatnot..

i've nixed the powersteering long ago, the only accesories it's got is the waterpump and the alternator.

i'm sure the 9.5" 3300 stall converter help. but for driving around it acts like a regular car.. no funkiness from the converter.
