Hey Bro...

Don't be in a rush with this. Keep the stock 2.8, and use it as a daily driver.... and work you're way from the rear, tranny, THEN the engine.

The 383 will destroy you're drivetrain, then you'll have no more daily driver while you build (unless you have another car, then you could take you're time of course).

You're best bet.... find a V8 donor car, and gut everything you'll need (it's cheaper than buying a whole new suspension package.... just find one that was either wrecked or stolen, with decent mileage.... check the local papers, or even e-Bay if you could afford shipping).

This way, you'll have everything you need.... and mosre importantly, it will bolt right in with no mods! It's a shame you don't live by me bro, cuz my friend is having a hard time insuring his Z28. He bought it with a salvage title, and tried to restore it.... when he finally decided to pull the motor, and just sell the rest. I'm not even sure if he sold it, but I know he was asking about $500.00 for everything (minus the motor of course).... now that's a SCORE for someone in you're position!

Get a V8 donor car bro, trust me, cuz you'll also get a nicer interior.... as well as some ground effects that easily bolt right on....

But as for you're 383 build....

Keep compression down to at least 9 to 1, and really look into the drivetrain! Get those heads flowing as best as they can, and match them with the proper 'roller' cam (nothing too radical) and rockers....

I've seen 383's with relatively low compression pulling almost 400HP at the wheels.... with the RIGHT heads and valvetrain!

Also, remember.... Vortech recently introduced the supercharger for CARB's, and with keeping the 383 at 9.1 compression, you could get away with running 12 pounds of boost, providing you go with aluminum heads, and an aftermarket colling system (intercooler is optional, but highly prefered)...

With the above set up, uhh.... can you say 550 Horse Power??? <smile>

Good Luck....
