zz4 is almost ready to fire up
ok this zz4 has been sitting for a while. it has never been started. so i am goin to change the oil just for precautions sake.
i wanted to check and make sure this wasnt a big no no or somthing. so is that a problem? also what brand of oil should i use, any in particular? i know not to use sythetic while it is new.
the next question is how should i break this motor in?
thanks,
J

These are a little old, but the process is valid (the current API rating is SL, not SG like the instructions state, for instance). You can skip step 3 - that's for flat-tappet cams, the ZZ4 is roller lifter. Step 6 can be done as soon as you get it running.
If it's never been started, the oil is probably fine. Changing it won't hurt anything.
You can change to synthetic at step 12 (how ironic). Step 10 would probably be okay as well, but step 12 is certainly safe.

I let my ZZ4 sit for 6 months before installing it in my 67' Camaro. Don't need to do a thing but fire it and make sure everything is working properly and your timing is correct. Hydra/roller cams don't need break in (5 mins at 2000-3000 rpms). I installed 88' TPI system on my ZZ4 from the get go. That was 3 years ago, runs perfect!!!!!
