well if youre serious about it, id say youll need everything. putting stock parts on a built motor is throwing money away. youll need nice pushrods, rockers, igniton setup, intake, and definatly a new carb. you need to be more specific on what you want to get out of this motor. the guys around here will always jump in and help you out if you have a question or a problem but you need to narrow it down for us first.
This is going to be a everyday driver. I'm only looking for 250-300 hp at the rear wheel. i want to get atleast 100-170 thousand miles out the thing. I'm basically making a list of the things i need so i can buy them as they become available. I just need solid parts, nothing to extravagent. I will not race the car, but i want better performance then my 305. i'm only want to spend about 2200-2500 for the engine and parts. Thankx

ok thats better. making a powerful daily driver is probably the oldest and most tried and true goal in the hot-rodding world. first off, i wouldnt spend money on a performance shortblock. for your $2500 limit, and 300hp goal, youll do fine with a stock 350 shortblock. daily drivers dont need to spin 8000+RPM, so youll be fine with stock bottom end parts. most of what you feel is torque anyway, HP doesnt really come into play until 3000+rpm. that nice kick in the *** that you feel coming out of stoplights is all low end torque. id keep your 305 heads, they have tiny chambers which make for high compression on stock pistons. just be sure to open up those valves and ports to keep that thing fed. get a mild-moderate cam, a nice intake, and a 750cfm carb. top it off with a few ignition goodies, and youll be shredding tires in no time. all this for about or below your 2500 limit and also youll get better gas mileage than some crazy rat motor setup. also your power will be down low in the RPMs, where you can really feel it.
this is probably your best bet. any more questions?

Thanks. Can you recommend any sites where i can a find a stock 350 small block? should i go with edelbrock intake and carb? Will the 700 r4 take 300 hp? will i need 'ignition goodies' now or can it wait til i have the money. Most of all can i still use the stock exhaust?
Thankx again

no problem. id look locally before you buy off the internet. a motor, esp a 350, is a big and bulky thing to ship. plus you can go down to any auto zone or advance auto, they can order a 350 shortblock for about 4-500 if im not mistaken. or check a local machine shop that does engine rebuilds. most of them have piles of junk blocks, and as common as a 350 is, im sure they could cut you a deal on cleaning up and assembling one. if you want reliable performance day after day, go with edelbrock. hollys will get a little more power but they can be absolute hell to work on. by igniton goodies i mean maybe a nice set of wires and a higher output coil. nothing very expensive, but it will help driveability a lot. yes you can use your stock exhaust, but it is very restrictive and you can get an aftermarket setup pretty cheap these days. personally id spend money on an nice exhaust even if it didnt make any more power, because then you get to listen to the most beautiful sound in the world, an american v8. come to think of it i have a complete and brand new exhaust from my camaro. headers to tailpipes. shoot me an e-mail if you want it.
