Big Block Swap
Hey, first time poster here.
I have a 1986 IROC with the LB9 305. This motor sucks is an understatment. I was talking to a buddy and he told me he could build me a very potent drag motor for about $5k. I asked him about it and he told me it has about 600 cubes...
.
I'm really considering this but I was wondering what kinda mods would I have to make to make this happen.
Thanks for any imput.

600 cubes is alot for 5000. New rear axle, turbo 400, 350, or 4le80 tranission, and the car would really appreciate a roll cage with all that power.
600 inches for $5k?? No way. Block alone will cost well over $3k.
You *might* be able to assemble a so-so 600" shortblock for $5k if you scored some used parts, but high-quality, brand new components??? Even the shortblock is a stretch for that kind of motor.
I've done a BBC swap in my 87 GTA. Unless you plan on a max-effort, drag race only production, save the headache, cost and hassle and put together a nice long-rod 383. It will go in easier, leave the car better balanced, and make more than enough power for the street.
Just my .02 cents
