Cylinder Heads

Okay fellas, I have $600 to spend on heads for my carbed 350 that is going in my 88 Camaro. What do you think about the Vortec heads and the Dart Iron Eagle's?
Both of these appear to be in my price range.
This will not be a daily driver and I would like to run around a .510 lift cam, which may be a problem with the vortecs??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

The vortecs should be able to accomadate good flow in the .500's lift area. They actually have the iron heads set up for "high lift cams" and come with springs good to like .550" I believe. Pace Performance sells those. I dont' know too much about the Dart heads, but I think they do have the larger 2.02/1.6 valves as opposed to the 1.94/1.5 valves of the vortecs. With vortecs though you have to remember that you would need a new intake to bolt up to the heads.

Iron Eagles are good heads, and they come with better parts than the modified Vortecs. They have Comp Cams springs locks and retainers and Manley stainless 2.02/1.60 undercut swirl polished valves. Plus they flow quite a bit more and they have a lot more meat for porting. I've had a pari before (although I nerver put them on a motor) but they were very nice especially for the price.

Do the Dart Iron Eagles require a new manifold or does a stock 87-UP manifold bolt directly to them with no modification?

I'm pretty sure they use a 86-lower intake, but I'd have to check the site to be sure.

They will use the older intake, but all you have to do to make the newer one fit is elongate the center holes on each side of the intake.

Thanks for the help. I think I am going to go with the Iron Eagles. After adding up all the extra costs the vortec heads would amount to (especially the roller rockers) I think I could save some money with the IE's. I do have a set of 461x's in my garage, talk about old school lol
