Hope no one gets mad at me for this, but, I want to drop a 350 tpi from a camaro or firebird into my 81 elcamino. Then if that goes well, I'll put one in my 82 t/a. The ? that I have is I know that I have to change the harness to the engine, but what about the guages and their harness? Do I need them too? How about the vss. Do I need a unit from an electric speedo? How about the fuel pump? Can I just get any electric fuel pump? A little more info: The elcamino is a 3.8l v6. It's going to be my show car. The bird is based on an lg4. That's going to be my beater. The main problem is the fact that I live in california. So emissions are a b1tch. I know that alot of you have done tpi swaps, but I was wondering if there was anyone that has first hand knowlege of my delema. Thanks for all your help.

 

If you get the harness and everything, I dont see any problems other then with your guages. You are gunna need to do something abotu the VSS and the trans. Most third gens dont ahve electric speedo's. As for fuel, your gunna need to get one that is in the tank due to the FI. Im sure other people will come in with there info.

it has guidelines about what you need to go through in terms of legally swapping an engine and getting it smogged in california. boy, this state of ours just LOVES its car enthusiasts.....
