1990 RS Build-up (350?)

OK here's the deal, I'm getting a 1990 RS Camaro, with an early 80's 305 (might be L69). The 305 has a Holley 600cfm carb and Weiand Stealth Intake, and hypertech distributer (?? I have never heard of this). Car has bad 700r4 in it but comes with a freshly rebuilt 700R4 w/ shift kit. The rear has the great 2.73 gears.

So my question to you all is for $1000 what is my best performance route for a daily driver (at least 8 mpg). I can get a good Short block 350 for about $100 and a Long block for about $200 - 300.

So there it is what can I do. If you have a combo that you think will work please list the parts and cost. Also a estimated performance output.

I would like to be mid 14's with out Nitrous or Boost (although boost is a little too expensive for the $1000 limit)

My idea's right now are
- 350ci short block ($100 swap/buddy)
- Headers ($120 Summit)
- Exhaust w/ 2 Thrush mufflers ($100 pipe home bent and $20 mufflers)
- Heads used (1.90/1.64's) ($150 swap meets),
- Cam and lifters ($150 Summit),
- Rear Gears ($200 swap meet, 3.73 or something close),
- A few junkyard electric fans ($50 junkyard).
- Subframe connectors ($10 Homemade)
- New Plugs, Wires, oil, coolant, etc. ($100).

I would think that set-up should be good for mid-high 14's.

Any feedback is welcome, Later, Garrett

Just to add to your list if you want to spend some more cash.

---> I'ld put some $$$ into the heads maybe get a good 3 angle valve job and have them shaved (if your budget alows), also do your own easy at home bowl/pocket blend.
---> Find a used or cheapie brand higher stall converter, and add a junkyard trans cooler.
---> Box in your stock lower control arms for next to nothing.
---> Add a home made cold air set up.

I think you're going to be WELL into the 14s with that setup, assuming some small amount of traction. Even the 2.73s won't hurt you much with the super steep 3.08 1st gear in the 700R4 trans. I've seen MANY dead stock 4th gen LT-1s and LS-1s into the 13s with that trans, stock converter and 2.73 rear gears.

I'm doing an almost identical project, but my goals are higher (or lower, depending on how you look at it).

I will have much steeper gears and spend some money on traction, however. See the signature.
