will a flexplate from a 305 automatic fit onto a GM 350 crate motor?

Yes. But...

82-85 thirdgen blocks take one part
86-92 thirdgens use another part

the older blocks are a 2-piece rear main, and the newer are 1-piece, so each takes a different one. Other than that it makes no difference whether a block is a 305 or a 350. It would be the same part.

That's right....on a side note though, there is a certain member of this board who I used to get advice from who tried telling me that the one and two piece rear mains were the same pattern and would interchange....lets just say that I don't take advice from him anymore, lol

It depends upon what year the 305 is, and which crate engine you're talking about (the base Goodwrench 350 is the older style, for instance).

But, as stated, the flexplate type depends upon the rear main seal type.
