70's 350 block, 88 TPI system
Hey, I havent posted in a long time guys but I am just wondering a few things...I have a mid 70's block "not sure on the year exactly" a TPI system off of an 88 IROC. and some stock heads that I got a valve job on. they are have centerbolts for the valve covers, I think they are 90 heads. alright, the block is freshly rebuilt and it has flat top pistons, an cam that has the same grind as an edelbroch performer cam...I know thats nohting special and I dont know exactly what the specs are on it. It has a high volume oil pump... and 1.5 ratio roller rockers....I also have a cheap set of headers...flowtech...oh Also I have underdrive pulleys what kind of HP and TQ should I expect out of this motor. Also I need to buy an inline fuel pump, any recommendations. and I am also looking to upgrade my ignition system. It's all put together I am just waiting on finding out what would be the best inline pump to buy and what other mods could I do to get more hp out of this motor. and will my computer work fine with the way its all set up? my brother is kind of worried about that so I thought I'd ask.

Doesn't sound too problematic. You'll need a two-piece rear main seal type flexplate, 153-tooth, like used in the pre-86 3rd gen V8s. The computer shouldn't complain at all about the cam.
Your headers will need the O2 sensor port.
What are the casting #'s on the heads?

I already got the flexplate....forgot to mention that...I am not sure on the casting numbers...but another question is....will anything internal that I do to that engine....mess up the computer....I mean will the combination I have be a problem for it. or do they even affect the computer. does anyone have suggestions on a distributor or coil...anything for the ignition?

You have to keep the cam reasonable. Too much overlap will confuse the computer, too much duration and the TPI will kill of the top end (making for a very narrow powerband).
Use a computer-compatible cam from Crane or Comp and you'll be fine.
1.6 rockers will give you a little more lift, and a very slightly more duration. Should help torque, but you need to make sure the heads (valve springs, retainer to guide clearance) are up to the task. 1.5's should be fine.
Distributor & coil: Upgrade to an aftermarket coil. Otherwise, just good tune-up stuff.

thanks, I have never rebuilt and engine before and this is my first time. but like I said the engine is already together...my brother said the cam is a mild cam and its got the same grind as an edelbroch performer. does it sound to you like this engine will work out alright and make at least stock horsepower..you know. like more than 245 hp and 345 for TQ. I'm excited to get it into the car. I still need to order the inline pump though, and I'm thinking about ordering a fuel pressure regulator, so I can play around with it a bit, although thats only what my bro told me to do. he knows quite a bit about cars. but sometimes I wonder how much he knows about fuel injected engines and things like that.
