To stay with TPI or not

I'm looking at retiring my 305 within the next 6 months with a GMPP crate engine. The 2 that I am looking at are the Fastburn 385 http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?ac...tid=120&pid=464 or the ZZ383 http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?ac...120&pid=156334. The problem with both is the fact that they have the Vortec design heads on them. Should I look into Scoggin-Dickey Vortec style TPI base or another Vortec style EFI manifold that will bolt on. Or get a different set of heads that will accept a standard intake design. Which ever way I go it needs to be able to pass the yearly emission test in the Houston area.

Why not just get a shortblock instead of a whole motor? Then you can use the heads and intake you want, and wont have to throw anything away.

If you stay with TPI and go Vortec, this makes a whole bunch of sense http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...=1577&pid=9009 . You need a little more than the standard package they quote (see the fine print), but it's a pretty decent package.

It isn't technically legal, but it'll certainly pass sniffer. If you get the EGR kit and have all of the rest of the stuff on there, the inspector probably won't give it a 2nd look.
