Hey guys, i was just checkin out my options with heads for the lt1, i know the stock ones are not going to cut it for me, i have the CC306 cam, and i need a good set of heads that have the best flow i can get for less than buying brand new heads :/... I might just try to save it up and buy the new ones , and i have a pair lined up whenever i get the cash, but its a bit out of my range of cash right now.. I also checked into getting my heads fully ported , and installing some different parts.. but alot say this really wont be worth it powerwise.. I want the motor to be able to put out its fullest, and i dont think porting the stock (iron) heads is going to cut it for me.. Would the LT4 heads work well? should i port those also ? I dont know much about the flow rates tbo.. please help me out, much appreciated.

Obviously numbers will very a bit, but I believe that stock alum LT1 heads flow about 215 intake, Stock irons flow about 230, and LT4 heads flow in the 250 range. AFR also makes a good head for them. So in stock form the Iron heads have a bit less compression but flow more. I dont have experience with porting LT1 head, but from what I have read, when professionally ported the 2 LT1 heads have about the same flow potential. I dont know about the LT4 heads potential when ported. I know that LT1 heads can flow up into the 280 range when professionally ported, and have seen people get in the 240's to 250's porting them themselves.

I guess it might help to know what kind of power you are shooting for.

ive pretty much set this car aside to be just a racer, it just sits in the garage in the winter and has no heating or air, all the hook ups and parts for heating and air are all off of the car, theres not even any stuff for the wipers. Pretty much summer/race only ... probably wont even be able to take it on the street much at all, hoping to be able to drive it on the street once in a while tho, like on weekends but i don't want to sacrifice power to do so ..

I would definitely check into AFR, look at the competition ported LT4 heads. great power to be had with those, only problem is the waiting period. But look at those, get an idea of what kind of flow you can get, things like that, and check out some of the companies that do CNC porting. They usually sell very nice LT1 and LT4 heads fully ported, ready to go.
