What do you guys think?

Hi,
Well, the trans is pretty much shot on my 89 RS's 2.8, so I have decided to swap in a new 700r4 trans + crate 350. According to Chevy Mag, this same block does about 265hp at 4300 rpm's. I don't really want any more at the moment for I'm not out to win races or whatnot. Just to have some fun on cruise nights and to be able to at least zip past some "performace cars".

Now, I also live in an area that does not have emissions requirements, so I want to shoe in a carbed block. Also, I've heard mixed rumors on weather I can use the stock FI fuel pump. Possibly with a fuel pump regulator since I'm guessing that carb pressure is around what 6psi? Also, I have a flowmaster catback running some small 2 1/4" pipe that splits into two after the muffler. I don't plan on using the cat, but would it be possible to use the current 2 1/4 pipe until it rusts out on me? Only has about 15k/mi on the pipe and muffler, so it's still good.

Also, I know I need to get the springs, find the mounts, brackets, v8 radiator and all that stuff, but is there anything else that is suggested? Also, since it will be a 700r4, I'm guessing I'd have to hardwire a switch for the TCC? Thanks a lot if anyone could pass along some info. Hm, any suggestions of B&M's transmission prices from their website? Also being a college guy, I'm not going to be doing anything till this summer on it. Grr. :/

I'd ask them to put a real carb on it instead of the Performer, or let them keep it and credit a couple hundred, then buy a Holley.

You're going to need more than the crate parts. You'll need engine mounts (the part that bolts to the engine - not available from aftermarket that I've heard), cables, brackets, accessories - might as well find yourself a V8 donor car. You can still use the crate engine and new tranny, but you really need a lot of little "stuff".

B&M & TCI make kits to make the TCC lock. Check Summit or Jegs.

Forget the exhaust. It's too small. Get new stuff made for '86-'90 TPI single cat, from headers to rear bumper.

I haven't heard good things when B&M & TH700R4 are used in the same sentence.

Tell ya what. That engine will do you fine. If you dont drive down salt infested roads, get yourself a set of cheap headers with a y pipe then run just 3" all the way back out to a muffler of your choice.. Bow tie overdrives has awsome transmissions and if you ever feel like puttin more power under your hood, that tranny will hold the power. What year is your car? find a 90-92 and get that raditor and fan even if it is off of a v-6, it will work great. Your stock driveshaft will work, and edelbrock is great for the street if you just plan on cruising like i think you want. That put that carburator on that engine for a reason. Now, your motor mounts are not hard to get out, and you can get a new set at your favorite local parts dealer for cheap. Your tach will not hook up very friendly and may have to take a trip to the electronics board to figure how to hook it up. Being in school, i know its hard, as i am to. But just make sure you do it right the first time. You can get a exhuast routed without cats cheap at one of your local shops if you can find a good one. There are many alternitives than flowmaster for you exit to that are half the price and sound equal or better IMO. Your drive shaft will work along with your rear end. Hope you have fun.

Yah, I kinda figured as much on the exhaust. *shrug* Yah, there is a good little shop down the road that did my current exhaust setup, I'll probably go with him again. Any recomendations on headers and making just having a y-pipe made at a shop? Otherwise I could just go with dual and run two plain old mufflers until I can really afford a good flowing muffler setup. I figure, with what the engine is rated, I will be happy for awhile.

Also, I know I've asked this before, but any recomendations on a fuel pump, or fuel pump regulator for using the current pump? (hehe, dosn't feel like droping the gas tank).
