383 stroker pros,cons

I have heard a lot of talk about a 383 stroker. I was wonder what advantages there are to it over a 350 and what might the cons be. Can they rev as high. How much more power can they make. Does it give the engine more compression. If you put a 400 crank into a lets say 350 tpi in a 3rd gen trans am do you have to make any changes to the computer. But I am thinking about forgetting computers and gettin me a 77-81 trans am with a 350 and not havin to worry about them, since I dont like carbs in a 3rd gen. If anyone knows a little more about this I would like to know. THANKS

power lever could be the same for each, but it's easier to make power with more inches to start with and at less RPM. you're asking some very basic questions. you may be ahead to read a book or two on engines and then think about what you want to do.

Depends on what you want to do. The 383 is always tempting, but how many trailers you plan on pulling with your car?? There is going to be an insane amount of torque with the 383, especially if you put the TPI on it. IF you can get it to hook, you could prob run some good times. But with the TPI, you'd have even less RPM. Like ede said, easier to make power with more cubic inches. However, if you'll look up TRAXION on this site, he has a stock 350 block and he's runnin low 12's now I believe. If you put the right parts on either motor, have decent traction, and a decent driver, you could pull some good times. I dunno, look up some people on here who have both and ask them. This is just my opinion.

Go 383, just my opinion. As stated, it's easier to make power with more cubes.
