383/355 LT1 pistons

I've got an LT1 longblock, that I'm planning on boring out to a 355 before I put it in my '88 T/A. I'm just curious to know what the best pistons would be? This will probably be a daily driver, so MPG would need to be around 15 at the lowest. AFR LT4 heads, an LT4 hotcam, LT4 manifold, and a 383 stroker kit will most likely go on it after the LT1's in the car. Before I put the LT1 in though, I need to know which pistons to put it, after I bore it out for the 383 combo.

If you've got the longblock and its a good known running unit, you'd be stupid to go having the block machined to drop 30 over pistons in it only to rip it apart soon after to change pistons and the rest, not to mention why bore a block that probably doesnt need boring.

also, if you're going to do a 383, get a bigger cam, like CC306 or something, the Hotcam is mild even for a stock cube LT1

The reason I want to bore it out before I put it in the car is because, for the 383 kit, I'll need the cylinders bored .30 over. How would the LT1 perform with just the stroker crank in it, without being bored? Is the CC306 a good street cam? This will most likely be driven daily.

The LT1 will act no different with the strocker crank and stock bore pistons. Your only talking about 5 cubic inches. The CC306 is definitely streetable, many LT1 guys have had great success with it.

So you're saying that a stroker crank would boost HP significantly over the 350 crank? Even without boring it, would it be worth it to get a stroker crank?

Is there a difference between an LT4 cam and an LT4 hotcam?

noooooo. don't use racenet. I've never heard anything good about them and have had bad luck with them myself. Your best bet would be to call Comp Cams tech line and tell them what you are building and what you want and they can get you a cam matched to your combination.

Well, I've got a line on a completely built LT1 from a friend of a friend. He says he's got an LT4 cam in it. I'm just wondering what kind of gains there would be if there was another cam in it.
95 lt1 .030 over flat top hypereutectic
pistons,LT4 cam,aluminum cyl heads,port matched intake
and heads, complete, intake to oil pan. wiring harness
from 96 firebird,pcm from 96 imp ss,acc brackets from
b-body and f-body .20k on engine.had new waterpump and
optispark when rebuilt

This is a description the guy sent me. What do ya'll think? Worth $1200?

since its already got .030 pistons in it you wont need to bore it if you want to do a 383. The LT4 cam is basically a slightly larger LT1 cam, while the Hotcam is a pretty decent street cam, but its really too small for a 383. You'll want something with a little more lift and a lot more duration. Everything about it sounds pretty good, except I wouldnt pay that much for a rebuilt LT1, most I'd pay is $1000 and it would have to have some nice parts on it.

Yeah, it's one of Zimmstoy's friend's engine, and I think i'll offer him a grand and see what he says. But what do you think that engine would run in the 1/4?
