383 stroker
i am in the process of building a 383 stroker for my 1991 rs and i was wondering what heads i should go with i want to make atleast 500hp/500ft lbs of torque or be very close to it but still be streetable what do you recommend?
thinking of either going with either the dart pro 1 aluminum 215cc heads with a 64cc
OR
a set of AFRs
for an intake i think i am going to be going with the edelbrock rpm air-gap manifold and a gm lt4 hotcam or a custom grind from comp cams do you think those 2 plus a good set of heads can get me to the 500 mark?

your not going to get 500hp/500lb ft, out of a lt4 hotcam without forced induction. also with that type of power your definition of streetable really comes into question. idles like a normal car... not hardly... but maybe having power brakes and a partial interior, a 5 point harness, and an 8 point roll cage.. that's realistically streetable at 500hp.
I have a low opinion of afr heads so i wouldn't recomend them. the Dart heads are nice.
for that sort of power and a 383 i'd drop the coin on a set of brodix track ones, and maybe have them gone over a bit by hand at a local motor shop that builds bracket motors.. they will be familiar with those heads.
i'd run somethign at least on the lines of a comp extreme energy solid roller in the range of at least 240/246 and lots of lift.
asFar as the intake... go with a single plane, and maybe a 1/2" spacer. at least a 750 DP holley like a 4150hp model. some folks like the 750 DP demons they will work well too.
The hard part for this and streetability is the trans. a 700R will not take it for long. your looking either a th350 or a th400, and a 3800-4000 stall... not exactly grocery getters... but they will behave on the street if they are 9.5" units.
Gears you'll be looking at either a 12 bolt, or a 9" loaded with 4.56's or better, with 28" tires.
don't be a bonehead and run a cast crank in there. if your serious about getting 500hp/500lbft out of it.. spend the money on the shortblock. forged crank, ballanced, good rods and pistons. otherwise don't build it cause you will destroy it.. a motor with nearly a 7000rpm redline is going to need some pricey sh*t
