Estimated cost of machining for splayed caps?
I'm going to call the machine shop this weekend, but I was wondering how much it has costed those of you who have them, to have the block machined for splayed caps. NOT including the price of the caps themselves. Just the machining part, including align honing.

Ask them if they can align bore the block, then just finish it up with an align hone. This will remove most of the material from the caps, instead of the block, and reduce the chance of there being slack in the timing chain.
An align hone uses the end crank journals to establish a centerline, as a align bore uses pilot bearings, allowing corrections to be made in crankshaft centerline placement.
They may want to do it this way anyway, as a hone would take longer to remove the material from the caps. I would just ask, to be sure.
