FS: 390hp LT1-powered 1991 RS

Life throws some curve *****. I'm starting my first "real" job soon and need to find a more respectable daily driver now that I'm in management and I've decided to sell the RS.

This car has been a labor of love for me since I first bought it in 1997 with 45k miles. It now has 77 on the chassis and 3k on all of the mods except the K&Ns.

This is a red 1991 RS with black interior, T-tops with brand new weather stripping (I wrote the tech article on Thirdgen.org), pwr locks, pwr windows, pwr hatch release and pulldown and split folding rear seats. For appearance, I have added a 1992 Z28 grille insert with bowtie and 1992 Z28 16"x8" rims.

Now for the GOOD STUFF!
Mods:
Fully functioning factory-stock-appearing LT1 conversion!!!

(Before I go further, I should mention that EVERY part of this swap is a brand new GM part other than the motor mounts that I reused. So the alternator, starter, etc all are less than 2 years old and have 3k miles on them or less.)

Engine: Bottom End

FORGED 355 BLOWER MOTOR
Childs & Albert "Trackmaster" 4340 forged 5.7" rods
TRW 21cc dished forged (4340) blower pistons +.030"
GM forged 1055 3.48" 1-piece rear main seal
Milodon 4-bolt main
Melling high-volume oil pump
plasma-moly rings
King Alecular bearings
ARP bolts/studs throughout
Fel-Pro head gaskets
rotating assembly weight-matched and computer balanced

Engine: Heads, intake and valvetrain components

GTP Stage 2 LT1 heads with full street port/polish and bowl work flow rated to 280cfm @ .550" lift.
Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 non self-aligning roller rockers and guide plates
Comp Cams dual valve springs good to .600" lift
Comp Cams single-piece .080" NASCAR quality thick-walled chrome-moly pushrods
Comp Cams 'R hydraulic lifters (best lifters available and currently on indefinite backorder because of overseas manufacturer)
AFR Hydra-Rev kit
Camshaft: produced by Competition Cams and grinded to Combination Motorsports' own specifications for an emissions-legal blower cam
Part # TS-224XL (224/236 .536/.555 115)
LT1 intake runners cleaned and gasket-matched to GTP heads
Plenum opening to TB ported to accept a 58mm Throttle Body

Tuning: PCMforless tuned by Brian

Rest of the car:

1995 LT1 block, wiring and PCM.
Custom wiring harness
Custom PCM mount inside car in stock 3rd gen position behind dash
PCM port for programming and reading codes
Replaced 110mph dash with 145mph IROC gauge cluster out of a 1990 Iroc-Z
1LE tight-ratio steering box
1LE dual fan system
AC 100% removed and covered with original (RARE!) non-ac firewall cover
Bosch wipers (never driven in rain... the Bosch just look better than stock)

Yank TT 2800 10.5" stall converter
B&M 28,000 gvw SuperCooler tranny cooler
160 degree TPIS thermostat
Custom LT1 coolant routing
CSI electric water pump
LT4 hi torque starter with remote solenoid
MSD-6AL and Blaster 2 coil
8.8mm wires
NGK TR55 plugs
LT4 Valve Covers
Corvette LT4 fuel rail covers with MBA bowtie symbols
Braided Steel fuel lines and -AN fitting adapters for LT1 fuel rail
Granatelli MAF with MBA blue anodized aluminum end pieces
Walbro 255lph in-tank fuel pump
SVO 36# flow-matched injectors
TPIS adjustable fuel pressure regulator
95+ vented opti-spark (brand new)
SLP 1 3/4" headers and 3" y-pipe
Dynomax muffler
Dynomax intermediate pipe
Custom factory-appearing turndown style exhaust tips (for the sleeper look)
Catco 3" high-flow cat
Strange 3.73 ring & pinion
Summit rear end girdle.
Zexel-Torsen limited-slip differential
Koni Yellow "Street Sport" adjustable shocks/struts
Car cover
Alpine head unit
Alpine speakers
Alpine 12 disc cd changer

...and a subtle LT1 badge off a Corvette on the passenger dash.

I'm sure I've forgotten at least a dozen other little things I've done!

The interior is immaculate for any 3rd gen. The body is perfect. The paint is great for a car with 77k miles with a few rock chips and and the requisite scrapes to the lower front fascia. The engine was designed to work with 12psi of boost on the street running pump gas. With a low CR of 9.2:1 and the current mild cam, it should be putting 340 to the wheels or about 390-400 at the flywheel. I don't have any dyno runs to back that up, but it is a proven combo and the fellows at Combination Motorsports can vouch for their cam's numbers.

The engine PARTS alone totaled $7500.

If you're looking for a sleeper, a weekend warrior, or a car built with no expense spared..... this RS is a serious contender.

I'm asking $9,500 firm for the car.

Impressive car... but what do you mean by "more respectable"?

I'm not arguing here, just curious.

There is a classifieds section for this. What does you being in management have anything to do with what car you drive?

I'm going into healthcare management for an Assisted Living and Nursing facility. That's upper management. I can't exactly roll in there at 6 or 7 am with the Camaro thumping. Firstly, because of image. But more importantly because all the residents would be upset. They pay BIG BUCKS to live there and are very vocal about these things.

I am selling the RS to help pay for a new daily driver and am also considering getting a used C5 Corvette to muck around with as a new project car. Whether or not I get a Corvette depends on how my finances settle out between the new paycheck and the possibility of payments against a daily driver. For now I have to wait and see as far as that is concerned, but I'm thinking ahead and trying to sell the RS now. No better time than Spring time!

I see the big picture... See, the new job means more money, which means people will see his car and automatically know its a sleeper because of how much money his new management position earns him.

Just call me sherlock... actually Im an idiot with too much imagination and time!

Congrats on the promotion.

They must have finally gotten production worked out. Over the past year and a half they have been high demand but only a minor trickle of them have come through. I got mine right before the manufacturer went down.

Congrats on the lifters. They're a nice solid unit.
