Swapping motors- casting question
Picked up block, casting 3970010
From what I understand, its a 4 bolt main, non-roller block.
I know its not the most deseribale block, Im just looking to build a decent forged rods/pistons motor, that I can run juice with at the track.
At this point, anything is better than the 305.
Any suggestions on how to make this a decent streetable motor. Just need it for the summer, building a turbo motor this fall.

any suggestions for compression and parts combination. im lookin for 10/10.5-1 compression, forged rods and pistions, iron heads.
Nothing too fancy, just a decent motor to last the summer.

It's a 350. Nothing unique about it at all. As was mentioned, a very common casting; about 80% of them or more were equipped with 2-bolt caps, so unless you've already looked, don't get your hopes up too much about it haveing the 4-bolt ones on it.
All the same stuff that applies to any 350 will apply to that one. Any crank, rods, pistons, etc. that work well in any other 2-piece rear main seal 350 will work well in that one.
The block casting number is totally insignificant as far as how to build a motor. What heads do you have or want to use? How fats do you want it to go? What's the rest of the car it's going in? (weight, gear, converter, etc.) Those are the things that matter, not the block casting number.
