just bought an engine

Not sure this belongs here, since I'm going from LB9 to LB9?

I am going to be getting a new engine for my TA next week! I ended up buying a 305 tpi complete from a 92 Z28 with 35000 miles. Got a good deal even though I was hoping for a 350. Can't wait to take my first drive of the season!

Anyway, I've never pulled the engine before. I'm going to have some help, so that's a plus. Just wondering if there is anything special to keep in mind, any hints. I'm going to take lots of pictures before I start, and I have the factory manual which has already been very handy. How long should I plan on the swap taking? I was thinking of setting aside 2-3 days the 2nd week of March.

i'd drain the coolent somewhere i'm not pulling the engine, then move the car to where you're pulling the engine. it'll keep you from laying in coolent. watch for ground straps.

Buy several boxes of Ziploc bags and a Sharpie magic marker. As you remove a component, put the bolts & whatnot into a Ziploc and write the component name on the bag.

Sounds stupid, but you'll be glad you did during reassembly.

Use masking tape and the Sharpie to label all wiring connectors and vacuum lines so you know where they go later.

pull the radiator out just to be safe from puncturing it, it may take a little longer , but it could save you a lot of money

Yes definatley pull the radiator, its only 6 small bolts and its a cinch to do, six bolts will save you a lot of trouble and give you piece of mind.

might want to get some thick towels for the fenders in case the engine happens to swing that way...if protecting the paint is a concern of yours. Also drain the trank and drop the diff when you change the pump. Will save you time fighting to get the tank out and aggrivation. I thought I could get the tank out with the diff in place and spent forever fighting with it, and I had the use of a lift. Replace the motor mounts while you have the engine out, I'm sure this is something you've already thought of but just in case.
