In a while I'll be looking for a donor car with an LT1 engine and T56 trans to swap into my 85.
I'd like to know what cars would be good for that and where's a good place to buy one on the west coast.

93-97 camaros
i think 94 and up caprise and roadmasters had teh lt1 but no 6 speed

 

The best LT1's to get are out of vettes or f-bodies. 93 thru 97 in the f-body and 92 thru 96 in the vette. There are a few differnces between them and a search will tell tyou that. The B-body LT1's had iron heads, and a smaller cam and a few other things.

And yes, what I'd be looking for would be the alum head/6speed. So the Vette or the F body is it.
So... next question, where does a guy go when he's looking for a totalled 4th gen? (W. coast)

 

The vette or f-bods are the one you want for aluminum heads and 6spd. As for where in the west coast, you are going to have to call your local yards or ask in one of the regonal forums.
