350 tuning question
I'm building a 79' 350 for my 84 Trans Am, and would like some advice. Here is a list of what i'm going to do.
.020 over hypereutectics
World Products S/R Torquers (67cc)
Crane Powermax 2050
coated Edelbrock headers
new catalytic converter
rebuilt stock cc q-jet
and I'm going to run the computer and all emissions equipment
To get this combo tuned right, should i use the parts from the emissions-legal 350HO swap that GM had available (ecm, chip, module etc...)? what distributor would you guys recommend, because i have to run my computer. Any other suggestions? thanks

You'll have more displacement than me, but otherwise you're very close to what I'm running.
I don't believe the knock sensor is a performance issue, but you should get the 350 sensor & module so that it works for you.
I'm running a JC Whitney chip I got back in '99. Don't even remember the name on it. I've never put the stock chip back in (I put the JCW chip in before I realized I had a bad fuel pump) to see if it makes any difference. But, I'd try it out first if I were you, then decide if you think you really need the chip upgrade. As I understand it, about all it does is put in a more aggressive timing curve (if you do that, see knock sensor, above). Don't forget, the HO 350 conversion kit parts list includes a dash decal that says "Premium Fuel Only".
Any particular reason you're using the TES? I'd highly recommend you consider Hooker 2055's. ACS will do you right on a set if you tell them you're a TGO member.

Oh, distributor. Just upgrade the control module & coil.

cool, thanks for the info. I wanted to get the 2055's originally, but i don't have the money to upgrade the rest of the exhaust (i'm still in high school). Oh, which type of distributor gear should i get?

got another question. I'm going to get my engine balanced, so should i just buy a new harmonic dampner made for a 350, or should the one off my 305 be good?
