305 TPI w/carb swap
I've done a search but with no luck, sorry if I missed it.
Can an '87 305 TPI long block be used in place of an L69 along with the L69's carb? In other words would I change anything such as the cam and add a mechanical fuel pump. This would be going with an automatic tranny. ECM will stay the same. (And no I don't want a 350
)
Larry.

You can put everything from your L69 longblock onto the LB9 longblock except two pieces.
The only issues will be the intake manifold bolt pattern and flexplate. The angle of the center two bolts on each side of the intake changed in '87, so you're going to have to modify the L69 manifold bolt holes, or get an '87-later q-jet EGR manifold.
If you use the LB9 flexplate, you won't have any problems. Otherwise, you need an '86-up one-piece rear main seal 153-tooth type.
The LB9 came with provision for the mechanical fuel pump, even though it didn't use it.

Thanks,
I forgot to put in about the manifold.
Do you know if the '87 LG4 intake is the same as the one on the L69?
Don't you love living in Colorado with a day like today in the middle of March? We're kinda spoiled. (it's 59* and sunny

At least for US-delivered 3rd gens, the LG4 intake was the same as L69. However, they didn't offer the L69 in '87.
Yes, this weather is terrible. Had to spend all day in the garage with the door open...
