Quick question on intakes????

Okay my friend has an 86 firebird with a 350. edelbrock performer intake (not sure if its a rpm airgap or what but is a performer style) and he blew his motor a few weeks ago. i got him a deal on an 87 gta with a stock l98. can he use his edelbrock intake on the l98 heads? i was told no by the master tech at work, i believe him but i want more info on this. i looked in jegs at the edelbrock intakes and it just says the sizes of the motors the intakes can go on. doesnt say anything about years or head styles.

so if you can shead some more light on this that would be great but if it wont fit i guess we'll be swappin heads on the l98 with the ones off of his 350.

I'm not sure but aren't the bolt patterns on the '86 and earlier different than the later models?

There is the vortec bolt pattern, and the old bolt pattern. Intakes are made for 262-400 SBC. The 87 probly has the "Vortec" style bolt pattern as the 86 has the regular style.

You can modify the intake bolt holes to work. Is this a carb intake? I take it you would be converting the L98 to carb?

Not hardly. The Vortec pattern started in 1996.

As Shifty said, you can modify (elongate, specifically) the center two bolt holes on each side so you can get the 72 degree bolts into the head. There are also '87-up Performer (EGR style) and '87-up Action + (non-EGR) available.
